A Stop at the Quay

July 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

On the anniversary of the USA declaring their independence, Sarah and I decided to stop by the New Westminster Quay. (the two things have no correlation) It had been quite a few years since I had visited the public market so I figured now would be a good time to check it out.  Much to our chagrin we found out the Quay is closed to undergo some major renovations.  Other than a couple restaurants and an ice cream parlour the place is a virtual retail ghost town.  I had spent many a mornings at the New West Skytrain station waiting to catch a connecting bus (the 112 Edmonds Skytrain if I remember correctly) to my highschool.  The area around the station is almost unrecognizable now that it’s getting a major makeover.  There are at least 4 high-rises almost completed within the block.  I suspect once those building are finished and the New Westminster Quay will be just as busy as Granville Island on a busy day.

If there was one saving grace I was able to take a few cool cellphone pictures.
